About the Event
Directed by Ben Sharrock | Drama | English | 104 mins | UK | 2020
Omar is a young Syrian musician struggling with the guilt, regret and grief that comes with leaving his former life behind. He is part of a group of new refugee arrivals on a remote Scottish island, as they await the results of their asylum claims. This wry, funny, and poignant cross-cultural satire subtly sews together the hardship and hope of the refugee experience.
This is a wonderful comedy that savours its remote environment while keeping its subjects at the centre of the story.
There are always new ways of telling the era’s most unavoidable sad stories. Not to be missed. THE IRISH TIMES
There are certainly politics at play here, but also poetry: it’s a very wry, very eccentric story about physical and spiritual displacement. EMPIRE
